Autism in Racing Community Interest Company (known as AIR) Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction

AIR is committed to creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all individuals involved in our activities. This Safeguarding Policy outlines our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all directors, employees, volunteers, contractors, and anyone else involved in the work of AIR.

3. Key Principles

  • Promotion of Welfare: We will take all reasonable steps to promote the welfare, safety, and well-being of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

  • Respect and Dignity: We will treat all individuals with respect and dignity, valuing their rights and autonomy.

  • Prevention: We will take preventative measures to reduce the risk of harm and ensure that everyone is aware of their responsibilities in safeguarding.

4. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Directors: The Directors are responsible for the overall implementation of this policy and will ensure that adequate resources are allocated for safeguarding.

  • Safeguarding Officer: Sam Oldroyd will act as the designated Safeguarding Officer responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy, providing guidance, and handling safeguarding concerns. Ashleigh Wicheard will act as the deputy Safeguarding Officer

  • Staff and Volunteers: All staff and volunteers are responsible for familiarizing themselves with this policy, attending relevant training, and reporting any concerns promptly to the Safeguarding Officer.

5. Recruitment and Training

  • All staff and volunteers will undergo appropriate checks, including DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks, to ensure their suitability to work with vulnerable groups.

  • Regular training on safeguarding principles and procedures will be provided to all staff and volunteers.

6. Reporting and Responding to Concerns

  • Any concerns regarding the welfare of a child, young person, or vulnerable adult will be reported to the Safeguarding Officer or deputy Safeguarding Office immediately.

  • The Safeguarding Officers will follow the appropriate procedures for reporting concerns to the relevant authorities and will keep a record of all reported incidents.

7. Confidentiality

  • All information regarding safeguarding concerns will be treated confidentially and shared only with those who need to know in order to protect the welfare of the individual.

8. Review and Monitoring

  • This policy will be reviewed annually or as required by changes in legislation or organizational structure.

  • The effectiveness of this policy will be monitored through regular audits and feedback from staff and volunteers.

9. Implementation

This Safeguarding Policy will be disseminated to all staff, volunteers, and relevant stakeholders. By adhering to this policy, we aim to create a safe and secure environment for everyone involved with AIR.
